Job Losses Confirmed at PokerStars as Flutter Restructures Operations
Flutter Entertainment has officially confirmed a sweeping round of layoffs at PokerStars.

Flutter Entertainment has officially confirmed a sweeping round of layoffs at PokerStars.
The cuts will affect teams in multiple countries as part of a major restructuring effort. While the exact number of roles affected remains undisclosed, the following message has been issued: PokerStars is evolving, and not everyone is on the same page.
The redundancies span several key regions, including Canada, Europe, the UK, and Ireland. According to a company spokesperson, that transformation is necessary in order to integrate online poker more seamlessly into the Flutter ecosystem. While some staff may be redeployed, the company isn't sugarcoating the fact that job losses are the genuine part of the process.
Where is the core of the problem? The pressures are multifaceted. In the UK alone, tax nearly doubled to 40% in April, directly impacting operator margins. Moreover, the relentless rise of crypto-casinos and prediction markets is causing a perfect storm in the players’ market.
Externally, Flutter faces fierce competition from crypto-casinos. Internally, PokerStars is struggling with legacy issues: the post-2000s boom is over, and the game's integrity is now being tested by AI.
Flutter has been transparent about the challenges PokerStars is facing. In its 2025 annual report, the company recorded a $725 million write-down on the brand's value following a strategic review. According to the report, Flutter decided to retire PokerStars' capital-intensive technology platform in December 2023. The aim was to enhance operational performance by sharing resources across the group and creating new synergies with the company's other brands.
